FAQ

Q: How much does it cost?

A: A price list will be provided to the veterinary clinics upon request.

Q: How far in advance are appointments made?

A: Same day appointments are possible if time permits, and the patient is properly prepared. Usually, an ultrasound is booked within a few days notice.

Q: How long does the ultrasound take?

A: An exam is usually completed within one hour. Ideally, the animal is shaved and prepped prior to our arrival, this can be very beneficial and time saving for a mobile business.

Q: How long does it take to receive a report?

A: STAT reports are available within four hours for an additional fee. Routine ultrasounds are back 24-72 hours, depending on the exam and the reporting radiologist. Routine exams are triaged at the time of scan.

Q: What is the preparation for an ultrasound?

A: For an abdominal ultrasound, the patient should be fasted 10 to 12 hours. The bladder should be emptied three hours prior to the exam and not again until after. Water is OK as long as there’s no sedation required. The animal will be shaved from the bottom of the chest down to their bladder. Echocardiograms require no preparation unless sedation is required, please confirm with your vet veterinarian. We cannot see through hair, therefore, which ever organ is being scanned, needs to be shaved.

Q: What if the pet is diabetic and cannot be properly fasted?

A: Please have pet fasted as long as it is felt to be safe – number of hours fast it will be relayed to the radiologist.

Q: Is there a mobile fee?

A: There are no mobile fees for hospitals and clinics within Calgary and a 25 km radius. Anything beyond 25 km is charged a travel fee. This fee can be split among multiple bookings.

Q: Can the owner be present for the exam?

A: We leave that decision up to the attending veterinarian and or clinic. If you feel your animal is better behaved in your presence, it may be an option!

Q: Is sedation required?

A: Sedation is determined by the attending veterinarian. Anxious animals can benefit from an oral anti-anxiety morning of and night prior to the exam. Please speak to your veterinarian about that option.

Q: Can the general public book your service?

A: No, this service is for veterinarians only. Please discuss this option with your veterinarian.
